Report-Dependent Utility and Strategy-Proofness

چکیده

Despite the truthful dominant strategy, participants in strategy-proof mechanisms submit manipulated preferences. In our model, dislike rejections and enjoy confirmation from getting what they declare desirable. Formally, payoff a match decreases its position submitted ranking such that strategic trade-off between preference intensity probability arises. This can trigger commonly observed self-selection strategies. We show misrepresentations persist for arbitrarily small report-dependent components. However, honesty is guaranteed to be optimal if only there no conflict quality feasibility of match. substantiate theory with already existing evidence provide novel testable predictions. paper was accepted by Yan Chen, behavioral economics decision analysis. On Merging Strategy-Proofness

Merging operators aim at defining the beliefs/goals of a group of agents from the beliefs/goals of each member of the group. Whenever an agent of the group has preferences over the possible results of the merging process (i.e. the possible merged bases), she can try to rig the merging process by lying on her true beliefs/goals if this leads to a better merged base according to her point of view...

Strategy - Proofness , Core , and Sequential Trade ¤

We extend the Shapley-Scarf (1974) model-where a …nite number of indivisible objects is to be allocated among a …nite number of individuals-to the case where the primary endowment set of an individual may contain none, one, or several objects and where property rights may be transferred (objects inherited) as the allocation process unfolds, under the retained assumption that an individual consu...

On strategy-proofness and symmetric single-peakedness

We characterize the class of strategy-proof social choice functions on the domain of symmetric single-peaked preferences. This class is strictly larger than the set of generalized median voter schemes (the class of strategy-proof and tops-only social choice functions on the domain of single-peaked preferences characterized by Moulin (1980)) since, under the domain of symmetric single-peaked pre...

Strategy-proofness in the Large∗

We propose a criterion of approximate incentive compatibility, strategy-proofness in the large (SP-L), and argue that it is a useful second-best to exact strategyproofness (SP) for market design. Conceptually, SP-L requires that an agent who regards a mechanism’s “prices” as exogenous to her report – be they traditional prices as in an auction mechanism, or price-like statistics in an assignmen...

A decomposition of strategy-proofness

Strategy-proofness has been one of the central axioms in the theory of social choice. We find that strategy-proofness is decomposed into three axioms: top-restricted AM-proofness, weak monotonicity, and individual bounded response. Among them, individual bounded respose is not as defensible as the other two, and we present possibility results by excluding individual bounded response from strate...
